
The Northwest Arctic Borough of Alaska was founded on the 2nd June, 1986 and lies on the Chuckchi Sea.
The Northwest Arctic is also home to the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge. The Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge is comprised of around 2400 islands, rocks, reefs, islets and headlands and much of it is wilderness.
Northwest Arctic is ideal for those who prefer nature as the major attractions of the area are bird watching, nature tours, dog mushing, flightseeing, camping, kayaking and rafting.
The largest community in Northwest Arctic is Kotzebue.
